Container desiccants

Container desiccants reduce the humidity in the container during shipping and consequently reduce or eliminate the need for in-box protection. It is essentially the same concept as fixing a leaking roof rather than needing buckets to collect the dripping water.

Our high-capacity desiccants, Absorpole®, AbsorBag®, and AbsorGel®, use calcium chloride to deliver exceptional moisture absorption and long-lasting performance for global cargo transit.

Absortech offers two types of container moisture absorbers, each engineered to support container condensation control and corrosion protection for shipping:

  • Gel-based desiccants transform absorbed moisture into a leak-proof gel, allowing for both vertical and horizontal installation.
  • Liquid-based desiccants collect moisture in a secure reservoir, making them ideal for upright positioning.

You can choose between vertical or horizontal installation, depending on your cargo and available container space. Horizontal placement boosts absorption capacity, making it ideal for situations where space is limited and efficiency is critical.

Make horizontal the default choice

Vertical desiccants are installed in container lashing rings and are designed to occupy minimal space in the container as they either fit into the container wall or are close to the container ceiling.

Horizontal desiccants are placed on top of the cargo (e.g. a pallet). A horizontally installed desiccant outperforms its vertical equivalent as the absorption is higher per kg desiccant installed. Further, the CO2 footprint is minimized as no accessories are needed.
