That’s the fantasy anyway after the cold, often dark months of October all the way to May. But at Absortech, even with many of us based in Sweden, these months mean one thing … monsoon season! June to September is the period when the South and East Asian tropics – and the world’s busiest trade routes – are affected by heavy rains. This rainy season is actually a combination of the Indian monsoon, Indo-Australian monsoon and East Asian monsoon, but for ocean-going cargos there’s little respite as they’ll pass through one or more of those weather systems on their way to the rest of the world. Of course, it’s a more critical time for us and our customers because the wet season equals more moisture damage protection. And needing to think more and even do more to ensure safe margins and peace of mind. So, here’s a handy checklist based on our experience to make life easier during these wetter times: Make sure the container is dry when loading. Make sure the pallets and packaging material are dry when loading. Check the container is undamaged and in good condition. If your cargo doesn’t need to “breathe”, close the vents. Make sure you are using the right amount of desiccants. Control that the desiccants are installed properly. Don’t hesitate to ask an expert (us) if you have any doubts. Good luck and here’s hoping for a dry summer for you and your goods!
